Where to Live in Trinidad
A concise guide to three popular areas: Westmoorings, Woodbrook, and St. Augustine. What each offers and how they compare for residents and investors.
Westmoorings
Westmoorings is one of Trinidad's most established residential addresses. Gated communities, waterfront access, and proximity to shopping and schools make it a top choice for professionals and families. Property types range from apartments and townhouses to large single-family homes. Rents and sale prices sit at the upper end of the market; in return you get security, convenience, and strong resale appeal.
Woodbrook
Woodbrook sits close to Port of Spain and blends residential character with commercial activity. It appeals to those who want walkable access to restaurants, bars, and offices without living in the city centre. Housing includes older character homes, modern apartments, and renovated units. Prices and rents are generally lower than Westmoorings but still above many outlying areas, with a trade-off of convenience and lifestyle over space and exclusivity.
St. Augustine
St. Augustine is home to the University of the West Indies (UWI) and a large student and academic population. Demand is driven by proximity to campus, research institutions, and the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex. The area offers a mix of single-family homes, apartments, and shared housing. Rental yields can be attractive for landlords; buyers often find more square footage for the money than in the northwest corridor, with the trade-off of a longer commute to Port of Spain.
What to consider when choosing an area
Match the area to your priorities: commute time, schools, security, and budget. Visit at different times of day, check traffic and parking, and talk to residents or agents who know the neighbourhood. Use verified listings with real photos and current prices to compare options across these and other areas.
